What Does a BCBA Do?
Welcome to B+B! If you’re just starting on the journey to find a behavior analyst for your facility or day program, you likely have the question: what exactly does a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) do?
A BCBA is an individual certified in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB), and BCBA’s work in a variety of settings (hospitals, schools, clinics, home, day programs- to name a few). Using the principles of ABA, a BCBA recommends systematic environmental changes to influence an individual’s behavior, and BCBA’s rely on methods backed by research. BCBA’s often work with clients to reduce challenging behaviors, and ABA is proven to be helpful in improving quality of life by addressing skill deficits across a range of domains: communication, social skills, attention and focus, activities of daily living, physical health, play or leisure, and motor skills.
Your BCBA will work with you and your staff and clients to create individual service plans (ISP) for each client. ISP’s include both skill acquisition plans and behavior reduction plans, and your BCBA will provide ABA staff training so that staff are confident and capable of implementing those skill acquisition plans and behavior reduction plans on a daily basis. Plans are created after a behavior assessment is conducted, and behavior assessments are a thorough review of current activities of daily living functioning levels, socially significant behaviors, environmental factors, and the personal goals of the client.
At B+B, the philosophy of people first, behavior second reflects our belief that any behavior change must have social significance and align with the values of the client. We focus on quality of life for each individual, and compassionate care. Contact us today to learn about how we can serve you!
